The San Antonio Spurs have revealed that basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama, who was selected as the top pick in the NBA draft, won’t be joining the team for Summer League games in Sacramento, California. However, he is expected to make his debut wearing a Spurs uniform in Las Vegas, where the team will face off against the Charlotte Hornets on July 7 and the Portland Trail Blazers on July 9. This information was announced in a brief statement that also detailed media access during the games.
The upcoming Summer League games in Las Vegas will give fans the chance to see French draft pick Victor Wembanyama face off against some of the NBA’s top players, including Brandon Miller and Scoot Henderson. The San Antonio Spurs will play two games in Sacramento before heading to Vegas, with Wembanyama expected to make an appearance on the court. While coach Gregg Popovich has yet to decide how much playing time the 19-year-old prospect will get, he is eager to see what Wembanyama can do in his first NBA season. Although he recently completed a full season in the French League, Wembanyama has opted out of playing for France in the FIBA World Cup in order to focus on preparing for his rookie campaign. He will train with the Spurs in San Antonio before heading to Sacramento with the team.
